CRESCENT BEACH PaintOut 2010
This September the island town of Lockeport will be the focus of artistic scrutiny as the Crescent Beach Centre hosts the area's first PaintOut. Amateur and professional artists will gather to paint the beaches, seascapes and landscapes in a weekend long event designed to bring together the creative community and the patrons who support it.
Watch artists at work, explore our town and its many beaches, join us for chowder or inventive cuisine, and experience the simple pleasures of island living.
The PaintOut culminates on Sunday afternoon with the Exhibition and Silent Auction of the works created during the event. Join us at 4pm at the Crescent Beach Centre for refreshments and raffle prizes, and a chance to own one of the works, perhaps even before the paint has dried.

Friday, September 10 is the official start of the PaintOut. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and volunteers will be on hand to provide maps and directions to some of more hidden painting locations. After a day of creativity we invite everyone to gather for dinner at the harbour’s edge, where The White Gull Restaurant will be open for business. Saturday, September 11 gets off to an exciting start with two 9 a.m. workshops being offered to artists looking for an introduction to plein air painting. Lio Lo will guide both beginner and experience watercolourists through the process en plein air including brush techniques and colour mixing. Gay McNeil’s workshop in Oils offers practical guidance for the experienced artist new to working outdoors, and includes working with the Impressionist colour palette and the importance of values.
Feeling the urge to participate? Bridgewater Photo and Art will have artist supplies available for sale. A Chowder Luncheon is being prepared by the Ragged Islands Historical Society and will be served at the Crescent Beach Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at a cost of $8.00. Dinner is available at the Parrot’s Pins Restaurant, specializing in local produce fused with a taste of the tropics. For reservations call 902-656-2695.
Sunday, September 12 is the final day for painting, and at 4 p.m. the Crescent Beach Centre will open for the Exhibition and Silent Auction of the works created over the weekend. Refreshments will be provided and prizes will be raffled. Take home a unique memento and support the artists of our magnificent province.
